Cameo Cut Settings

I've been asked a few times for settings for cutting a variety of papers and card. These are the settings I use.....

All are cut on a cutting mat.

Speed
Thickness
Depth
Centura Pearl Self Adhesive Paper
8
9
3
Centura Pearl Card
3
33
4
Vellum (can vary depending on weight)
3
15/33
2/3
350gsm Card
3
33
6
Holographic/ Mirror Card
3
33
5
Self Adhesive Card
3
33
4
Doeflex
(settings will depend on the intricacy of the design)
3
33
8/9
Double Cut

These are only indicated as a guide.  Settings could vary as some cardstock may vary in density/weight and the 'life' of the blade may also contribute to these settings needing to be altered.

A test cut either using the standard test cut or a mini-shape eg,small circle in the corner of page, is always recommended.

  3. Thanks for this Hayley. Always good to have these settings confirmed because that 'itty bitty' blade seems so delicate. It amazes me every time I watch it cut.

  4. Thank you for this Hayley - i've been adding some of my own custom settings to the machine when i've cut something different to those available.

Not sure how many people know, but if you change your meansurements from inches to cm or mm, the paper weights and info also changes into British paper weights i.e. 220gsm... rather than the American poundage.

    1. Hi Paula. I'm new to the blog and the Cameo and I'm interested in your comment as my images on screen are shown in inches but the card weights are in pounds still - how do I change this?

    2. I hope you don't mind me answering... just noticed your question :)

If you go to File > Preferences > Measurements you can change the settings :)

  7. Hi Hayley - only me again... just to add to your table - I cut some Bazzil cardstock and test cut until I got it perfect... I had some of the 'orange peel' textured cardstock and not sure whether the different textures of Bazzil cardstock makes a difference or not - here's how I cut it:
    Speed: 10
    Thickness: 25
    Blade: 4

I think you may be able to play about between the thickness and blade i.e. reduce one while increasing the other e.g. blade: 3 and thickness 30 - however, I felt like I might be getting ready for a new blade so increased the depth.

Also, I always have my speed on 10. It will then glide through any medium and not judder and pull and pucker the cardstock. The only time I might change this is if I was cutting doflex or acetate; I've get to try those out.

Is it worth updating the table as readers advise what works best for them? I appreciate it if you would rather stick to your own Hayley - I respect that completely.

    big hugs

    1. You're welcome but please bear in mind these are the settings I use with my Cameo machine but you can use them as a guide for the robo. However don't use 350gsm card, as that will put strain on the robo's motor.

  9. Hi Hayley, I got a Silhouette, and have put a new blade into it, I do not seem to be able to cut the same thickness of card as I did with the old stick blade, can you offer any suggestions please.
    Thank you

  11. Hi Hayley

This link was sent to me and is more valuable than you will ever know, I have had the silhouette for a couple of weeks and really struggled with the settings inspite of looking up the various US/UK conversions.

As a card maker more than anything else, I need to be able to cut card! I have used designs from the website, i.e. the whole card is designed, but have failed miserably on the cutting have been using dies up until now and am determined to persevere! would you say the above cuts are suitable for 250/300gsm card stock, and Pearl linen card? I know its seems a lot to ask but it would help me and other card makers a great deal.

  12. Just a bit more, I have also purchased a good deal of card stock from create and craft, Mirri, pastel linen effect in pale colours, they do not specify weight so again it is more hit than miss. I did buy the machine from them, so I need to be able to use their card. Perhaps you could put a word in the right ear, or left, ha ha. Thanks.
